Authorities are seeking two suspects on the run who stole a car in Lee County Monday and crashed into a Columbus bank after a short chase with police.
Then they escaped on foot.
Columbus police were first put on notice just after 8 p.m. to be on the lookout for two people driving a stolen black Mustang from Lee County, according to a Columbus Police Department press release. Not long after, a CPD officer saw the vehicle near the Sonic on Highway 45 North and tried to stop the car, but the suspects didn’t pull over. The officer was unable to safely follow the car and lost sight of the suspects.
Minutes later, the press release said, the car crashed into the side window of Cadence Bank on Highway 45 North and Bluecutt Road. No one was injured in the crash and the two suspects fled on foot heading toward the U.S. Post Office building on Bluecutt Road.
The only description police provided of the suspects is that one is a black male and the other is a black female wearing pink shorts and a white T-shirt, the press release said. One of the suspects has long, braided hair.
The car crashed into the part of the bank occupied by the office of branch manager Shelley Clark, but Clark said there was little damage inside her office.
The case is still under investigation by CPD.
Authorities have asked anyone with information on the crime to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
