Mississippi State University students and upcoming Starkville businesses can find their next step on Main Street.
The Idea Shop, 114 Main St., is a makerspace and retail store that will be opening soon for entrepreneurs. The Idea Shop is an extension and partnership with the MSU Center for Entrepreneurship and Outreach, College of Business and School of Human Sciences.
Local businesses and MSU students will have an open concept workshop in the back of The Idea Shop to work and design products and prototypes with the help of MSU engineering students. The workshop will have a carpentry area, printers and 3D printers.
The front of the store will have a retail area to sell those up-and-coming products.
The Idea Shop will hold its soft-opening for the retail division this Friday from 1-7 p.m., Saturday 2-8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
An official opening date with set hours will be announced once the workshop area is complete.
A Russell Street restaurant has officially announced its closure. Bully’s Burgers and Wings, 500 Russell St. Ste. 26., recently closed its doors with an announcement on its website.
If you’re leaving Starkville heading toward Columbus, you have probably seen construction starting on Highway 82 next to the Shell Sprint Mart. The Dutch Oil Company of Columbus is building a larger Sprint convenience store with more than twice the gas pumps than its current location.
Over in Columbus, Main Street and the Farmers Market are hosting its 11th annual Holiday Market. With more than 70 vendors, you will likely find the perfect gift just in time for the holidays.
The Holiday Market will be at the Columbus Hitching Lot on the corner of Second Avenue and Second Street North from 9 a.m.-noon. In addition to homemade scarves, hats, baked goods, honey and wreaths, you’ll also find hot food vendors Saturday.
“You can come and find things you’re not going to see anywhere else,” Columbus Farmers Market Coordinator Katherine Lucas said. “It’s good to put money back into the local community. It keeps people here and helps our community here. It’s a great place to find those original one-of-a kind gifts.”
In East Columbus, Corey Herring Automotive now offers U-Haul trucks, trailers, towing equipment and moving supplies. According to a U-Haul press release, Corey Herring, 1230 Gardner Blvd., has officially become a neighborhood U-Haul dealer.
