The Columbus Arts Council will present the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra in concert Saturday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. at Rent Auditorium on the campus of Mississippi University for Women in Columbus. This renowned orchestra is conducted by Crafton Beck and will feature soloist Gareth Johnson on the violin.
Music for the evening will include Handel”s Overture and Dances from “Alcina,” Geminiani”s Concerto Grosso in d minor, Op. 2, No. 3; Purcell”s Incidental Music from “Abdelazer”; Bach”s Violin Concerto No. 2, featuring soloist Johnson; and Orchestra Suite No. 2.
Columbus Arts Council Board President Elizabeth Johnson stated, “The Arts Council is fortunate to host such an esteemed group of professional musicians. We pride ourselves on offering quality programs to promote the arts in our community.”
As the largest professional performing arts organization in the state, the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra performs for more than 75,000 Mississippians each year at more than 120 concerts statewide. It tours statewide as a full orchestra, a chamber orchestra, and as one of three resident ensembles — the Woodwind Quintet, the Brass Quintet and the String Quartet.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for seniors and students. Patron tickets are available for this performance, and those ticket holders will be admitted free with appropriate membership levels. All tickets are general admission.
