Friends of the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library will launch its fall Table Talk series Wednesday, Sept. 1, at noon in the library meeting room, 314 Seventh St. N., with a discussion of Tennessee Williams'' play, "Sweet Bird of Youth."

"We are excited by this opportunity to partner with the Tennessee Williams Tribute and Tour of Victorian Homes and know that this program will offer added insight to the play. It''s a great way to kick off the Sept. 6-12 Tribute," said Friends'' board member Jo Shumake.

Rus Blackwell, director of "Sweet Bird of Youth" for the upcoming Tennessee Williams Tribute and Tour of Victorian Homes, will stage a scene from the play with principal actors John Moore ("Chance Wayne") and Jo Ann Robinson ("Princess Kosmonopolis").

Following the scene, Blackwell, Moore, Robinson and stage manager Elise MacDonald will discuss the rehearsal process and answer audience questions.

"If you''ve ever wondered how the written text of a play becomes living, breathing theatre, this is your chance to explore the magical process with professionals," said Shumake.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for those wishing to bring their lunch and socialize before the program begins at noon. The Friends will serve iced tea.

Each Wednesday in September, the Friends will host a "casual visit with books" open to the general public.

"We''ve centered most of this month''s programs on Mississippi authors, and we hope that the lunch-time format will enable more people to break away from their routines and enjoy both food and food for thought," added board member Beth Imes.
