The Friends of the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library continues its September Table Talk series with a discussion of influential childhood books Wednesday. Panelists Nina Ferrante, George Hazard and Jo Shumake join moderator Margo Bretz Sept. 8 at noon in the library meeting room, 314 Seventh St. N.

"After the words ''I love you,'' the phrase ''Read me a story,'' may be the words parents most want to hear from their children. It''s that first important stepping-stone to a lifelong love of learning," said Bretz.

From adventure stories and legends, to tales of everyday life, the panelists will look at well-thumbed, dog-eared and somewhat tattered books which had an impact on their education and sparked their interest in reading.

"We''re going to have fun talking about the great books we remember from grade school, and we''re encouraging everyone who has a favorite childhood story to join in the discussion," said Ferrante.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for those wishing to bring their lunch and socialize before the program begins at noon.

The Friends will serve iced tea.

Table Talk will be presented each Wednesday in September. For more information on the series, contact the Friends at book.talk@hotmail.com
