TUSCALOOSA – A teacher at Aliceville High School and another teacher who had just retired were among four people reported killed in a crash near the intersection of U.S. Highway 82 and Echola Road in western Tuscaloosa County.
The retired teacher has been identified as Stephanie Nettles Barnes. The current teacher, Lawanna Nettles Fowler, was Barnes” sister. Fowler was a social studies and economics teacher.
Witnesses said it appeared an 18-wheeler tried to avoid a car that had ran a stop sign, and that the 18-wheeler then struck the teachers” car.
The other car was driven by a 16-year-old. The teenager was injured and taken to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa for treatment. The driver of the 18-wheeler was also taken to the hospital.
