Mitchell leads Stallions to win

MILLPORT, Ala. -- Senior running back Ken Mitchell rushed for 339 yards and five touchdowns Friday night to power the South Lamar High School football team to a 45-27 victory against Meek 45-27 in an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 1A, Region 5 game. 


Mitchell scored three times in the first quarter for South Lamar (3-6, 2-5 region), which will play Thursday at Sulligent. 


The Stallions took a 21-0 lead after Williams scored on runs of 32, 34, and 20 yards. Meek followed with Dylan Cleghorn''s 9-yard touchdown reception on a pass from Jackson Murphey. 


South Lamar answered with two more scores, starting with a 48-yard touchdown pass form Jordan Smith to Hank Parker. Then Blake Mitchell returned an interception 52 yards for a score. 


Murphey passed for another Meek touchdown before halftime, hitting Casey Lawson from 9 yards. 


In the third quarter, Meek scored first on Tyler Hallmark''s 10-yard run. Ken Mitchell tacked on his fourth touchdown with a 79-yard scamper. 


Meek''s Brandon Griffith returned an interception 9 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Ken Mitchell ended his scoring assault for the Stallions with an 83-yard run.
