LOUISVILLE — Wyatt Roberts completed 17 of 26 passes for 262 yards to lead the Louisville High School football team past Amanda Elzy 32-8 Friday night in the first round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A playoffs.
The Wildcats (8-4) scored all of their points in the first three quarters and coasted to the victory. Louisville now advances to the second round to play Lafayette County, which defeated North Pontotoc 49-7.
Roberts started the scoring with an 11-yard scoring pass to C.J. Bates in the first quarter, when the Wildcats scored 18 points. Davais Schaffer added a 4-yard scoring run, then Jimmy Goss made the tackle in the end zone to claim a safety against Amanda Elzy (7-4).
Schaffer scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter to put Louisville ahead 26-0 at halftime. Louisville ended its scoring in the third quarter on Zan Carter”s 18-yard interception return for a touchdown.
For Louisville, Tahj Ford rushed three times for 13 yards and caught eight passes for 116 yards. On defense, Kevin Washington collected six solo tackles.
n West Point 21, Hernando 14: At Hernando, Lakenderic Thomas scored all three of his team”s touchdowns in the Green Wave”s final regular-season game.
Thomas ran for touchdowns of 9, 5, and 75 yards to lead West Point (10-1, 7-0 Class 5A, Region 1).
West Point will play host to in the first round of the playoffs Friday.
The loss eliminated Hernando from the playoffs. Lake Cormorant beat Hernando in the regular season and earned the region”s No. 4 playoff spot.
n Calhoun City 40, Hamilton 3: At Calhoun City, J.R. Jennings passed for three touchdowns — two to Demarius Howard — to keep Calhoun City unbeaten and end the Lions” season in the first round of the MHSAA Class 2A playoffs.
Aaron Thompson started the scoring for Calhoun City (12-0) with a 15-yard touchdown reception from Jennings in the first quarter. Avery Hill then followed with a 9-yard scoring run.
In the second quarter, Howard caught touchdown passes of 19 and 31 yards for a 27-0 East Oktibbeha halftime lead.
Hamilton (5-7) connected on a 38-yard field goal by John Alvo in the third quarter for its only points. In the fourth quarter, Calhoun City scored on Jennings” 33-yard pass to Tavlon Primer and Rickey Conley”s 8-yard run.
Calhoun City will play Hollandale Simmons in the next round of the playoffs.
n East Oktibbeha 48, Ethel 12: At Crawford, Chris Hunter ran for a touchdown and threw for two more Friday to help the Titans close their season with a victory.
Hunter completed both of his pass attempts for 86 yards.
Lexie Edwards had five carries for 125 yards and a touchdown. Monte Horsley ran three times for 54 yards and a touchdown.
East Oktibbeha ended the season 4-7 for the second consecutive year.
n Greenwood 14, Amory 7: At Greenwood, the Bulldogs forced five turnovers and held the Panthers to 29 yards rushing on 23 attempts in earning its first playoff win since 1996 in MHSAA Class 4A action.
On its first possession, Amory (3-9) drove to the Greenwood 10 before a pass from Forest Williams to Ryan Hill was fumbled. Greenwood”s Khalil Johnson scooped up the loose ball and raced 88 yards for the first touchdown of the night with 8 minutes, 20 seconds left in the first quarter. The extra point was blocked to make it 6-0.
Freshman quarterback Kwadre Griggs hit a streaking Raheem Sanders down the left sideline for a 54-yard touchdown strike with 5:58 left in the first half. Sanders then ran in the two-point conversion for Greenwood”s 14-0 halftime advantage.
Amory got its first big break early in the fourth when Abaris Woodrick blocked a punt by Sanders to give the Panthers the ball at the 17. Seven plays later, the Panthers were in the end zone on a 6-yard run by Fred Garth. Shelly”s kick made it 14-7 with 5:20 to play.
Amory”s last two drives ended with turnovers, as Johnson intercepted Williams with 2:16 to go. As time expired, Amory was tossing the ball around the field and Sanders fell on the loose ball to end the game.
Williams was 30 of 47 for 209 yards with two interceptions.
n Central Academy 22, Tensas (La.) Academy 20: At St. Joseph, La., senior quarterback Ferris McGuire threw three touchdown passes and converted the critical two-point conversion in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools eight-man playoffs.
The victory sends Central Academy (10-1) to the finals at 1 p.m. Thursday on the Jackson Prep field against Kemper Academy (11-0) for the state title. Kemper Academy blanked Central Academy 54-0 two weeks ago in the regular season.
In the first quarter, McGuire hit Will Disbrow on an 18-yard touchdown pass. Rowdy Rigdon snagged a 32-yard second-quarter touchdown pass from McGuire.
Disbrow”s second touchdown from McGuire came in the third quarter on a 52-yard pass. McGuire”s two-point conversion provided the game-winning points.
n Tri-County Academy 48, Immanuel Christian 0: At Flora, the Rebels (12-0) eliminated the Rams (6-6) from the MAIS Class A playoffs.
Wesley Lake led Immanuel Christian on offense and defense. He rushed 12 times for 45 yards and had five tackles. Dustin White carried 10 times for 43 yards and James Wriley followed with 29 yards on seven carries.
On defense, Zack Kimbrell also had five tackles for Immanuel Christian, which made the 11-man playoffs for the first time in school history. White and Riley each had four tackles.
n Baldwyn 58, West Lowndes 24: At Baldwyn, the Bearcats built a 44-12 halftime lead to knock the Panthers out of the MHSAA Class 2A playoffs.
Baldwyn (7-5) scored 37 unanswered points to open the game. Bradley Boose started with a 34-yard touchdown run, followed by Lorenzo Hill”s 3-yard fumble return, Seth Swinney”s 23-yard scoring pass from Walker Wildmon, a safety, Hill”s 9-yard pass reception from Wildmon, and Reggie Patterson”s 21 -yard touchdown pass from Wildmon.
In the second quarter, West Lowndes” Antonio Wilson scored on runs of 3 and 12 yards. Baldwyn”s Swinney added an 11-yard touchdown catch from Patterson.
Baldwyn scored in the third quarter on Hill”s 94-yard interception return. Tyler Estes adding a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
West Lowndes (6-5) ended the scoring with Brandon Clark”s 24-yard touchdown run and Rodrick Johnson”s 31-yard scoring pass from Jermaine Thompson.
n Winston Academy 32, Indianola Academy 7: At Louisville, the Patriots (7-4) advanced to the second round of the MAIS Class AA playoffs with the victory.
