A stitch in time: Area quilters advance to semifinals in international show

Sharon Hedrick, of Columbus, and Julia Graber, of Brooksville, have been selected as two of 388 semifinalists for the 25th anniversary American Quilter''s Society Quilt Show and Contest April 22-25 in Paducah, Ky.  


Hedrick''s "Madame Butterfly" and Graber''s "Family Circle-- Farmer''s Delight," representing hundreds of hours of work, have been shipped to Kentucky for judging. The individual quilt named "Best of Show" will be awarded a $20,000 cash prize and becomes part of the permanent collection in The National Quilt Museum in Paducah.  


The annual exhibition, which brings more than 35,000 quilters, collectors and vendors each spring, offers more than $127,000 in total prize money. Entries come from 48 states and 11 other countries including England, Japan, Australia and South Korea, among others.  


Both women are members of the Possum Town Quilters; Hedrick is the immediate past president.
