Heritage Academy falls to Pillow Academy
GREENWOOD — Christibeth Nelson had 13 points Monday night, but the Heritage Academy girls basketball team lost to Pillow Academy 50-35 in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AAA, Division II tournament.
Rachel Hollivay had nine points and Stephanie Cruse had six for the Lady Patriots (18-15), who will play Jackson Prep at 4 p.m. Thursday in the overall Division II tournament at Madison-Ridgeland Academy.
Oak Hill girls take third
GRENADA — Tori Ellis and Anna Ready earned all-tournament honors Monday and helped lead the Oak Hill Academy girls basketball team to a 46-40 victory against Simpson Academy in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AA North tournament at Kirk Academy.
Oak Hill Academy (24-9), which took third in the tournament, will play against Bowling Green (La.) on Wednesday at Brookhaven Academy in the overall AA tournament.
Ellis had 14 points, Rachel Herndon had 12, and Ready added 10 in the victory Monday.
New Site girls end West Lowndes” season
NEW SITE — Tyesha Knott, Chadyilla Selvie, and Khadejah Smith each had seven points Monday, but the West Lowndes High School girls basketball team lost to New Site 84-26 in the first round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A North State tournament.
Morgan Pearson paced New Site (23-4) with 18 points. New Site will play at 4 p.m. Thursday at West Bolivar.
Noxubee County girls edge Yazoo City
YAZOO CITY — Tyneshia Mickens” layup as time expired Monday lifted the Noxubee County girls basketball team to a 46-44 victory against Yazoo City in the first round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A North State tournament.
Mickens paced Noxubee County (17-10) with 17 points. Brianna Brooks had 14 points, while Jasmine Little had seven and Aja Forte added five.
Noxubee County will play at 4 p.m. Thursday against New Albany at Pontotoc High.
Class 1A
n East Oktibbeha 66, South Leake 46: At Crawford, The East Oktibbeha girls basketball team beat South Leake 66-46 Monday in the first round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 1A South State tournament.
Senior Shondra Nichols led East Oktibbeha with 31 points.
The Lady Titans (19-9) will play Bogue Chitto at 4 p.m. Thursday.
“Shondra, along with our other senior Kelcie Lanier, had a great game,” East Oktibbeha head coach Randy Brooks said. “I”ve been telling them all year, if we”re going to get to Jackson they”re going to have to get us there.”
n Coffeeville 77, West Oktibbeha 54: At Maben, West Oktibbeha”s season ended Monday with a 77-54 loss to Coffeeville in its Class 1A North State play-in game.
Mississippi State signee Shamia Robinson had 21 points, while Jaslynn Bedford had 16 points.
Jammeeka Horton led Coffeeville with 30 points.
The Lady Timberwolves finish the season 18-11.
n In other games, the Hebron Christian girls defeated Newton Academy 45-22 in the Class A tournament at Benton Academy. The Hebron Christian boys lost to Heidelberg Academy in overtime.
