GREENVILLE — The Columbus High School girls and boys soccer teams split matches Saturday against Greenville Weston.
In the opening match of the day, the Lady Falcons won 5-2. Freshman India Yarborough scored two goals. Senior captain Katie Proctor, junior Shelby Hughes, and freshman Kelanie Frazier also scored. Seventh-grader Kameryn Lang had two assists.
“We are pleased so many players contributed to the road win today,” Columbus coach Lyn Taylor said. “With a young team, you work hard to have them maintain consistency at home and on the road. This weekend our players did a nice job of that, and we like the progress we’re seeing each week.”
In the second match, Greenville Weston earned a 2-1 victory. Junior captain Ricky Hackler scored for the Falcons.
“These young men played with a lot of heart today,” Columbus coach Ben Moore said. “It was a tough loss on the road against a talented side, but I was happy with how hard we worked despite missing some key players because of injury and illness.”
The Columbus girls will open district play Friday at home against Tupelo. Both teams will play host to New Hope in non-district games next Saturday.
