JACKSON — East Mississippi Community College men’s basketball standouts Deon Bedford, of West Oktibbeha County High School, and Curtis Hall, of West Point, signed scholarships earlier this week to play basketball at Belhaven University.
Bedford, a 6-foot-5 guard/forward from Maben, averaged eight points and 5.3 rebounds per game this season. He made 45.7 percent of his field goal attempts and led the team with a 75.7 percentage from the free-throw line.
“Deon is a high level athlete,” Belhaven coach Tom Kelsey said. “He won three NJCAA Region 23 championship rings while at EMCC, two while playing and one as a redshirt, and will bring a championship mentality to our program. We feel as though we are getting a NCAA Division I level player, and are excited to see Deon develop and continue his education with us.”
Hall, a 6-2 forward from West Point, averaged 6.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. He was second on the team in field goal percentage (57 percent). Hall started 25 games this season.
“Curtis is a big time defender,” Kesley said. “He guarded Ole Miss signee Marshall Henderson from South Plains Community College and held him to seven points in the national tournament. Curtis is a tireless worker and allows us to add another immediate impact guy, and we are excited to see his development over the next two years.”
Belhaven University is a member of the NAIA, Southern States Athletic Conference, and Mid-South Conference. It sponsors 13 intercollegiate sports.
