Winning region championships has been status quo for the East Mississippi Community College men’s basketball team.
The Lions have won the last three region titles.
EMCC begins the season ranked eighth this year and will test that ranking tonight when Geogia Highlands College comes to Keyes T. Currie Coliseum for a doubleheader (women at 5:30 p.m. and men to follow).
“We have an expectation level in our program and we are excited about getting started,” EMCC sixth-year coach Mark White said. “It is a long season and we will be tested early.”
Three starters return from last season’s 23-6 team. Sophomores A.J. Wade (Northeast Lauderdale), Earnest Hunter (Noxubee County) and Micah Walker (Jonesboro, Ark.) each return.
The Lions should also receive boosts from Division I transfers Trey Brown (Tennessee-Chattnaooga) and Keynan Pittman (James Madison), as well as Midlands College transfer Jarekious Bradley.
Sharon Thompson begins her eigth season with the Lady Lions. She has two players back from a 7-16 squad.
This season, EMCC basketball games will be streamed on-line through the school’s web site.
