With roster full of talented sophomores, Starkville Academy football coach Jeff Terrill there could be some long days at the office this season.
One such day took place Friday night when the Volunteers dropped their season opener, 35-3 to Lamar School in Meridian.
Despite the setback, Terrill and his staff were back at work Monday stressing the positives.
“It is all about consistency,” Terrill said. “You want to go about corrections, but you also want to point out the good things that took place.”
Typically, teams show great improvement from the opener to week No. 2. Terrill hopes to see that when Starkville Academy plays host to East Rankin Academy at 7 Friday at J.E. Logan Field.
“East Rankin has a fine football team,” Terrill said. “They are extremely physical. We have had some good games with them over the years.”
East Rankin dropped its season opener, 27-14 to Central Hinds Academy.
The Patriots were 7-5 last season, including a 34-29 home win over Starkville Academy.
Against Lamar, a 44-yard field goal from Johnathan Burton was the lone score for the Volunteers.
