The West Point High School boys basketball team had its nine-game winning streak snapped Saturday after falling to Jackson Provine in a 91-79 shootout.
Juan Davis led the Green Wave with 28 points and four 3-pointers, but West Point’s sharpshooter was outgunned by the duo of Jerekius Davis and D’Angelo West, who paced Provine with 24 and 20, respectively.
West Point (12-2) lost its first game since a 73-48 loss to Starkville on Nov. 23.
The Green Wave trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half but closed the gap to 37-35 at the break after a trio of 3-pointers by Davis, who paced a 10-3 run.
West Point took its first lead at the 7:20 mark of the third quarter, but the one-bucket advantage was shortlived. Provine’s Kyarius Davis scored 10 points — all layups — to help Provine take a 69-60 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Demarius Calvert add 11 and AJ Jones had 13 for the Green Wave.
