STARKVILLE — Starkville Academy won its home opener in prep soccer action with an 8-0 win over Bayou Academy at the Starkville Sportsplex.
Starkville Academy (1-1) received three goals from Anna McKell, two goals from Addison Gordon and a goal apiece from Jacey Williams, Savannah Hubbard and Sydney Passons.
The Lady Volunteers built a 7-0 lead at the intermission.
Starkville Academy visits Jackson Academy Monday night.
n Heritage Academy 18, Starkville Academy 8 (softball): At Harper Hutchins Field, the Lady Patriots scored the game’s first 18 runs, while cruising to victory.
Heritage Academy (3-1) scored three times in the first inning, six times in the second inning and nine times in the third inning. Starkville Academy (1-3) scored all of its runs in the fourth inning.
For the Lady Patriots, Tyler Rhett had three hits and three RBIs; Macy Walters and Mckenzie Bumgardner each had two hits and an RBI; Sidney Adair and Shelby Phillips each had a hit and RBI. Hayley Martin and Kaitlyn Hocutt both finished with three RBIs.
For the Lady Volunteers, Erin Linley, Morgan Fore and Ashley Sharp each had a hit apiece. Fore drove in two runs, while Sharp, Linley, Adrienne Futral, Sarah Morgan Pellum and Alex McCathery each had an RBI.
Kaitlyn Oswalt started in the circle for Heritage Academy and was lifted with two outs in the fourth inning. Walters and Adair pitched in relief.
Both teams play Saturday in the Starkville Academy Invitational at the Starkville Sportsplex.
Elsewhere around the area Thursday night, the Oak Hill Academy softball team fell to 0-4 with a 7-2 loss at Winston Academy. The Lady Patriots are now 2-0 with the win.
