STARKVILLE -- Matt Fuller rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns, and Brady Davis was 11 of 18 for 183 yards and three touchdowns Friday night to lead the Starkville High School football team to a 51-19 victory against Noxubee County in the season opener for both teams.
Fuller scored on runs of 4 yards and 1 yard as part of a ground game that amassed 230 yards on 41 carries. Davis connected with Rapahel Leonard on a 43-yard score, AJ Brown on a 31-yard touchdown, and Chris Rogers on n 11-yard score.
Timorrius Conner threw two touchdowns and rushed for another for the Tigers. Noxubee County surrendered the most points it has allowed in a game since a 52-32 loss to Neshoba Central on Oct. 27, 2006.
n West Point 21, Grenada 16: At West Point, Senior quarterback Dason Thomas accounted for 192 yards and two touchdowns to help the Green Wave survive a late rally in a season-opening win at McAllister Field.
Thomas, who passed for 123 yards, opened the scoring with a 77-yard strike to senior Steffon Moore on West Point's third offensive play. He also added a 10-yard scoring run to help the Green Wave opened the season with a win for the first time since 2010.
Senior tailback Lacequiu (Quincy) Starks, who rushed for 112 yards on 21 carries, scored West Point's third touchdown, a 1-yard run to give the Green Wave a 21-9 lead midway through the third quarter.
Grenada rallied on a 10-yard scoring run by Fesner Spencer that cut the deficit to five points with nine minutes remaining, but West Point didn't allow Grenada to cross midfield for the remainder of the game.
n Victory Christian 35, Hebron Christian 20: At Columbus, Anthony Sharp rushed for two touchdowns in the first half Friday to help stake Victory Christian to a lead that they preserved in the season opener against Hebron Christian.
After trailing 21-0 at halftime, Hebron Christian used a 65-yard run by Landon Hill to get back into the game, but Victory Christian took the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown to take the momentum back.
Junior Channing Tapley added a 51-yard touchdown pass to senior Andrew Myatt for Hebron Christian.
n Lamar County (Ala.) 14, South Lamar (Ala.) 7: At Millport, Alabama, Bryce Myles scored two touchdowns Friday night to help the Bulldogs defeat the Stallions in the season opener for both teams.
Myles, who started at quarterback in place of starter Cullin Carter, who missed the game due to illness, rushed for a team-high 88 yards on 15 carries.
Myles scored twice on runs of 4 and 13 yards to give the Bulldogs a 14-7 lead just before halftime.
Kyle Redmon rushed for 91 yards on six carries to lead South Lamar. Hershel Smith (14 carries, 89 yards) had the Stallions' first-half score that gave them a 7-6 lead in the second quarter.
