BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Alabama senior guard Levi Randolph was named the Southeastern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
The award is Randolph’s first career league honor and the Crimson Tide’s first Player of the Week award since Trevor Releford earned the accolade on Nov. 19, 2012.
Randolph had a big week as he averaged 21 points, 6.5 rebounds, and two assists in wins against Western Carolina and reigning Conference USA champions Southern Miss last week. He shot 60 percent (12 of 20) from the field, 50 percent (3 of 6) from 3-point range, and 100 percent (15 of 15) from the free-throw line.
The senior captain leads Alabama in points (19), rebounds (7.7), assists (three), and minutes (33) per game.
Vanderbilt’s Wade Baldwin IV was named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 9.5 points, 7.5 assists, six rebounds, and 1.5 steals in wins against Lipscomb and Tennessee State.
n Alabama’s Williams named SEC women’s Player of the Week: At Birmingham, Alabama, Sophomore Ashley Williams was named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, which was announced by the league office Monday morning.
The forward from Covington, Georgia, averaged 21.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for the Crimson Tide last week and was instrumental in Alabama going undefeated at the Hall of Fame Women’s Challenge in Lawrence, Kansas, picking up wins against Kansas, Georgetown, and Temple.
Alabama will play host to Alabama A&M at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
