MACON — Ferris McGuire poured in a game-high 26 points Thursday night to lead the Central Academy boys basketball team past Russell Christian 53-48.
Central Academy (2-4) trailed 33-26 at halftime before outscoring Russell Christian 13-4 in the third quarter and 14-11 in the fourth.
McGuire was followed in scoring by Chris Newman with nine points, Cole Newman with six and Rowdy Rigdon with five.
Central Academy plays the host team in the Pickens Academy Tournament in Carrollton, Ala., today.
n Central Academy 61, Russell Christian 13 (G): At Macon, the Lady Vikings held Russell Christian scoreless in the first and fourth quarters en route to a convincing victory.
Central Academy outscored Russell Christian 10-0 in the first quarter and went on to lead 32-9 at halftime and 48-13 at the end of the third period.
Central Academy”s leading scorers were Corey Dawkins with 17 points, Blake Rigdon with 14 and Kendall Taylor 10.
The Lady Vikings play Pickens Academy in the Pickens Academy Tournament today.
n Tuscaloosa Academy 36, Pickens Academy 33 (B): At Tuscaloosa, Ala., the Pirates came up short in a loss to Tuscaloosa Academy.
Pickens Academy (5-3) only trailed 19-18 at halftime before being outscored 8-4 in the third quarter.
The Pirates were led by Jacob Acker with 15 points.
n Pickens Academy 38, Tuscaloosa Academy 25 (G): At Tuscaloosa, Ala., Callie Minor scored 13 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to lead the Lady Pirates to the victory.
Lincoln Pearson scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for Pickens Academy (8-2).
