STARKVILLE – Starkville Academy will look to build on one of its most successful baseball seasons under the direction of a new coach.
Jody Britt has left the school after two seasons as head coach to accept a coaching position at Clinton High School. Brooks Roberts confirmed the move Thursday night. Roberts, a baseball assistant this past year, will be the head coach of the program during the remainder of its summer league schedule.
Starkville Academy completed the regular season with a 22-11 overall record. The Volunteers qualified for the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AAA, Division II playoffs for the first time since playing for the state championship in 2011.
“The kids really bought into everything we were trying to do,” said Britt, upon completion of the season. “It’s hard on the academy level when a lot of players play three or four sports. However, the players worked hard during the fall and during the off-season.
They wanted to make sure we had a successful season.
“We had some talented seniors able to sign college scholarships offers. As a head coach, you are proud to see the hard work pay off.”
In other Starkville Academy news, Rob Barron has taken over the school’s new softball coach.
Barron previously coached at Oak Hill Academy where he worked with several sports.
He replaces Kayla Mosley, who has taken time away from coaching to work with the Air National Guard. Mosley was also an assistant coach with the girls’ basketball program.
