GRENADA — Justin Frye scored 19 points Wednesday to lead three players in double figures and help propel the Heritage Academy boys basketball team past West Memphis Christian 66-47 in the Kirk Academy Invitational Tournament.
Will Swedenburg (16 points) and Cole Walker (13) also scored in double figures for Heritage Academy (11-4).
The score was tied 9-9 at the end of the first quarter before Heritage outscored West Memphis each of the remaining periods. The Patriots led 26-21 at halftime and 50-33 after the third stanza.
Heritage Academy will play at 5:15 p.m. Friday against Pillow Academy and North Delta Academy.
n Heritage Academy 47, West Memphis Christian 40 (G): At Grenada, Madison Ford scored 19 points and Christibeth Nelson scored 16 Wednesday to lead the Lady Patriots in the Kirk Invitational.
Heritage (7-11) outscored West Memphis 18-8 in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Patriots trailed 14-6 at the end of the first quarter, led 23-21 at halftime, and trailed 32-29 after three quarters.
Heritage Academy will play at 6:30 p.m. Friday against Kirk Academy, which had a first-round bye.
n Fayette County 64, Aliceville 62 (B): At Aliceville, Ala., the Yellow Jackets missed a 3-point field goal attempt that would have won the game and came up short against Fayette County on Tuesday.
Aliceville (5-8) was outscored 19-14 in the third quarter and 17-15 n the fourth quarter after leading 33-28 at halftime.
Gerald Sterling had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the Yellow Jackets, Charlie Daughtry had 14 points and five rebounds, and Desmond Bonner with 13 points.
Soccer
n Caledonia 5, Kosciusko 0 (B): At Kosciusko, Five players scored goals Tuesday to help the Confederates improve to 7-3 and 1-0 in the district.
Kye Van Someran scored an unassisted goal in the ninth minute, Kevin Kugel scored on a corner kick off an assist from Evan Wester in the 19th minute, and Drew Hankins scored in the 28th minute to make it 3-0 at halftime.
Brandon Webber scored an unassisted goal in the 41st minute, and Josh Kugel scored off a set piece in the 45th minute to complete the scoring.
Matt Gresham recorded the shutout.
The Caledonia girls won 4-1.
Caledonia will play host to Cleveland in a girls-boys doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m.
Junior High Basketball
n Heritage Academy 40, Oak Hill Academy 27: At West Point, John Wesley Williamson had eight points, six rebounds, and three steals, Jeb Stevens had six points and five rebounds, Jacob Dickens had seven rebounds, and Conner Baird had five points and three steals for the Raiders on Monday.
n Oak Hill Academy 48, Heritage Academy 22: At West Point, Kim Kelly had 10 points and three rebounds, and Anna Ready and Maegen Ellis each had nine points Monday for the Lady Raiders.
Shay Atkins had five rebounds and four assists, Lauren Billington had six points and nine rebounds, and Rachel Herndon had six points.
