STARKVILLE — It has been four weeks since Carl Torbush left as Mississippi State defensive coordinator to take the same position on Turner Gill”s staff at Kansas University and coach Dan Mullen of the Bulldogs has been busy looking a replacement.
Mullen visited potential candidates at the American Football Coaches Association Convention in Orlando, Fla., this week.
Some of the names emerging as the front-runners in the search are Manny Diaz, Middle Tennessee State defensive coordinator, Rick Minter, former Cincinnati head coach and Marshall defensive coordinator, and Willie Martinez, former Georgia defensive coordinator. It”s expected that Diaz may be in Starkville this week for a formal interview.
There”s another opening on Mullen”s staff after defensive line coach David Turner left to coach the defensive line at the University of Kentucky earlier this week.
