MLB.com’s Jim Callis reported Monday that Mississippi State baseball junior Gavin Collins has signed with the Cleveland Indians for $100,000.
Collins was taken in the 13th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Playing third base this past season, the Indians drafted him as a catcher.
Collins’ decision to sign makes him the ninth of a school-record 11 players drafted who has signed.
Jack Kruger and Brent Rooker are expected to return to MSU. Both started summer baseball programs this past week.
Dakota Hudson and Austin Sexton signed with the St. Louis Cardinals. Jacob Robson and Zac Houston signed with the Detroit Tigers. Nathaniel Lowe tweeted he signed with the Tampa Bay Rays. Vance Tatum signed with the Kansas City Royals. Daniel Brown signed with the Milwaukee Brewers, while Reid Humphreys signed with the Colorado Rockies, although the Rockies haven’t announced his deal.
Signees Walker Robbins and Colin Holderman have signed big league contracts. Signees Douglas Ashcraft and Dustin Skelton were drafted, but haven’t signed.
