ALICEVILLE — A big first half carried the Aliceville High School football team to a 52-12 non-region victory against Pickens County in Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) football action Friday night.
Aliceville scored on six of seven first-half possessions to build a 44-12 halftime lead. Aliceville outscored Pickens County 30-0 in the second quarter.
For the Yellow Jackets, Santiago Taylor threw touchdown passes to Javon Phillips and Nicquavious Craig. DeMontez Hinton ran for 212 yards, with touchdown runs of 10 and 12 yards. Jamar Richardson had a 24-yard touchdown run, while Craig scored on a 2-yard run. Phillips had 121 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Deonte Taylor had three solo tackles and eight overall. Xavier Phillips had two solo tackles (four overall) and a sack, Malik Bonner had two solo tackles, four assisted tackles, and a sack, and Taylor had an interception.
Caleb Bonner and Zach Thomas each scored touchdowns for Pickens County.
Aliceville (4-2, 3-0 region) will play host to Hatch (2-3, 1-1) in Class 4A, Region 2 play, while Pickens County (3-2, 1-0) will play host to Brilliant (0-5, 0-3) in Class 1A, Region 5 play.
n Winfield 28, Sulligent 6: At Sulligent, Alabama, the Blue Devils couldn’t get the offense going in this non-region home loss.
Sulligent was held to 177 yards of offense. C.J. McLemore was 4 of 6 for 59 yards. Tyreke Metcalfe had three catches for 51 yards. Ethan Carter ran 13 times for 76 yards, while Metcalfe had six rushes for 18 yards.
Sulligent got a 75-yard kickoff return by Metcalfe midway through the second quarter. That score brought the Blue Devils within 12-6, but the Pirates (3-2) posted a second-half shutout.
Sulligent (2-3, 1-1) will return to Class 2A, Region 8 play Friday night at Mars Hill Bible (2-3, 0-3).
n Lamar County 21, Berry 6: At Berry, Alabama, the Bulldogs turned in another solid defensive performance to win their fourth-straight game.
Lamar County scored on the opening possession thanks to Mark Duncan’s 6-yard run. Berry led 7-6 at halftime.
In the second half, Ric Rogers scored on a 12-yard run and Isaac Whittle scored on an 18-yard run.
Lamar County (4-2, 3-0) will return to Class 2A, Region 8 play Friday night at Red Bay (5-0, 2-0).

Curry 0: At Millport, Alabama, the Stallions won their third-straight game with their second-straight shutout.
Buster Griffin had six carries for 82 yards and a touchdown. Griffin led the defense with a forced fumble and interception in the end zone. Jace Johnson also scored on a 14-yard run.
South Lamar (4-2, 1-1) will return to Class 1A, Region 5 play Friday at Marion County (1-4, 1-1).
n Pickens Academy 48, Coosa Valley Academy 6: At Harpersville, Alabama, the Pirates stepped outside of region play to snap a two-game losing streak in Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) play.
Riley Harcrow had three touchdowns and added seven tackles to lead Pickens Academy. Harcrow had six carries for 103 yards. He had a 75-yard touchdown run. He also caught touchdown passes of 1 and 41 yards.
The Pirates received a 41-yard touchdown pass from Hamner Allen to Lee Acker and a 29-yard touchdown pass from Will Jones to Grady McGlawn. Jones had a 27-yard touchdown run, while Seth Peeks had a 55-yard touchdown run.
Pickens Academy (3-2) will play Friday at Newton County Academy (3-3) in another non-region matchup.
