Mississippi State catcher Elih Marrero was arrested on two charges early Sunday morning, driving while under the influence and driving without proof of insurance, according to the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest occurred around 4 a.m. Sunday morning. Marrero is out on bond.
Marrero has been away from the team for nearly the entire season for an undisclosed off-field issue. MSU coach Andy Cannizaro labeled it as such and has not elaborated on the reason for his absence or his status with the program when asked multiple times.
Marrero, a switch-hitting sophomore from Miami, played in four games for MSU this season, starting two of them, and went hitless in 10 at-bats.
