MARION. Ala. — The Aliceville High School football team moved to 2-0 in Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Class 2A, Region 4 play with a 14-6 win at Marion on Friday night.
Aliceville (2-1, 2-0 region) scored all the points it needed in the first quarter on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Kavon McGraw to Justice Craig and a two-point conversion run from Elijah Plott.
The Yellow Jackets stretched an 8-6 halftime lead midway through the third quarter when Zavien Wilkins scored on a 8-yard run.
Aliceville had 213 rushing yards. Wilkins had 15 rushes for 72 yards, while McGraw ran 15 times for 67 yards. McGraw was 6-for-11 for 69 yards. Craig had three receptions for 58 yards.
Craig led the defense with eight tackles, while McGraw and Ricco Pittman had five. McGraw and Matthew Clark had interceptions.
Marion (1-3, 0-2) was held to 162 yards offense.
Aliceville will play host to Verbena (0-4, 0-2) in another region game Friday night.
n Lamar County 28, Mars Hill Bible 14: At Vernon, Alabama, the Bulldogs are also off to a 2-0 start in AHSAA Class 2A, Region 8 play.
For Lamar County (2-2, 2-0), Ric Rogers threw for one touchdown and rushed for another. Rogers threw a 1-yard touchdown to Dalton Avent and scored on a 33-yard run.
Taye Buchanan (3-yard run) and Isaac Whittle (2-yard run) added rushing scores for the Bulldogs.
Lamar County had 301 yards, including 240 rushing. The Bulldogs led 13-7 and finished with three takeaways.
Lamar County will play Friday at Hatton (0-4, 0-1) in another region game.
n Pickens County 44, Marion County 14: At Reform, Alabama, the Tornadoes had little trouble getting to 2-0 in AHSAA Class 1A, Region 5 play.
Pickens County (3-0, 2-0) led 22-0 at halftime
Pickens County will step outside of region play to play host to Class 3A power Oakman (3-0) on Friday night.
n South Lamar 34, Berry 0: At Millport,
Alabama, the Stallions join the Tornadoes as the only 2-0 teams in AHSAA Class 1A, Region 5 play.
South Lamar (3-1, 2-0) was led by Herachio Washington, who ran for 180 yards with a 6-yard touchdown. Jarrett Bryant had 136 receiving yards and scored two touchdowns. Bryant scored on pass receptions of 71 and 5 yards.
Buster Griffin scored on a 4-yard touchdown pass and had a 71-yard punt return touchdown.
Sam Dowdle was 9-for-14 for 152 yards and three touchdowns. The Stallions ran for 246 yards to finish with 398 yards.
Berry (1-3, 1-1) had 9 yards of offense, including minus-26 yards rushing.
Bryant had nine tackles, while Grayson Lindsey had eight. Malachi Oglen, Jack Dowdle and Buster Griffin had interceptions.
South Lamar will look to keep its perfect start inside region play alive with a road trip to Holy Spirit Catholic (2-1, 1-1) on Friday night.
n Autauga Academy 41, Pickens
Academy 8: At Carrollton, Alabama, the Pirates dropped their second-straight game, falling in this Alabama Independent School Association Class AA, Region 2 matchup.
Pickens Academy (2-2, 0-2) scored on a 49-yard touchdown pass from Seth Peeks to Riley Harcrow. John Bradley Seymer ran for a two-point conversion.
Tripp Carter threw three touchdown passes for Autauga Academy (4-0, 2-0).
Pickens Academy will play host to Coosa Valley Academy (1-4) in a non-region matchup Friday night.
