ITTA BENA -- The Caledonia High School girls and the Noxubee County High School boys track and field teams won Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A Region 1 championships Tuesday at Mississippi Valley State University.
The Lady Confederates scored 109 points to outdistance Amory (81 points) and Noxubee County (75).
The Noxubee County boys had 119 points to run away from Caledonia, which was second with 80.
Jessica Comer led the Caledonia girls with first-place finishes in the 3,200 meters (12 minutes, 24 seconds), the 1,600 (5:41), and the 800 (2:30. She also teamed with Jelisha Hackman, Kayla McKee, and Isis Perkins to take second in the 4x400 relay.
Hackman won the triple jump (36 feet) and the 400 (1:00.83) and was second in the 100 (12.82).
Sarah Guess was third in the shot put (33-6) and the discus (85-8), Nellie Miller was second in the 100 hurdles (17.8) and fourth in the discus (82-5), Glenda Rhone was fourth in the high jump (5-0) and fourth in the 200 (28.1), Brooke Lester was third in the 3,200, Avery Smith was second in the 1,600 (6:16), and Peyton Stanley and Carlee Gurley qualified for the Class 4A North Half State meet in the pole vault.
Caledonia High boys track and field coach James Reed said the pole vault area was not suitable for competition, so all competitors advanced to the next round.
The top four individual and team finishers advanced to the North Half State meet Saturday at Pontotoc.
In the boys meet, Caledonia High''s Zach Senneff won the 3,200 (10:59), Chris Warren won the 1,600 (4:55), and Curtis Fluker won the triple jump (40-7).
Kevin Kugel was fourth in the 3,200 (12:03), Shaquille Dixon was second in the 100 hurdles (17.58), Homer Miller was third in the 100 (11.3), the 4x200 team of Edmund Elizenberry, Caleb Roebuck, Fluker, and Miller was third with a time of 1:35, the same team was fourth in the 4x100 (45.62), Colt Gilbreath was third in the 800 (2:11), the team of Raymond Brown, Warren, Kugel, and Fluker was second in the 4x400 (4:35), and Jarrett Hopper moved on to the North Half State meet in the pole vault.
Results weren''t immediately available for Noxubee County and Amory in Class 4A and for West Lowndes in Class 2A.
