ALICEVILLE, Ala. – Aliceville High School moved to 3-0 in Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) play with a 36-0 win over Verbena Friday night.
Aliceville (3-1, 3-0) led 30-0 at halftime.
Payvious Rice led the Aliceville rushing attack with nine carries for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Kavon McGraw ran five times for 97 yards with a touchdown. Rodney Jones ran nine times for 65 yards with a touchdown. Edwards Colvin also had a rushing score.
McGraw completed 6 of 7 passes for 42 yards.
Rico Pittman and Tykeem Doss each had seven tackles to lead the Yellow Jackets on defense. Avery Bishop had six tackles, including two for loss. Doss also had an interception.
Aliceville plays at Pickens County in a non-region game Friday night.
Lamar County 41, Hatton 18: At Town Creek, Alabama, the Bulldogs improved to 3-0 in AHSAA Class 2A, Region 8 play with the road win.
Lamar County (3-2, 3-0) received a first-quarter 30-yard touchdown pass from Rick Rodgers to Mark Duncan. Isaac Whittle had a 55-yard interception return score and a 10-yard rushing score for the Bulldogs.
Lamar County plays host to Berry in a non-region matchup Friday night.
Sulligent 35, Phil Campbell 6: At Phil Campbell, Ala., the Blue Devils moved to 2-0 in AHSAA Class 2A, Region 8 with a convincing road victory.
Sulligent (4-0, 2-0) got a hot hand from Tyreke Metcalf, who ran 11 times for 226 yards with four touchdowns. Metcalf scored on runs of 55, 7, 34 and 58 yards. Jaron Scott also had a 2-yard scoring run.
The Blue Devils finished with 350 rushing yards.
Sulligent plays at Winfield Friday night in a non-region contest.
Oakman 15, Pickens County 6: At Reform, Ala., the Tornadoes suffered their first loss of the season in this non-region AHSAA matchup.
Tadarien Mcintosh had a 12-yard touchdown run for Pickens County (3-1).
Pickens County will play host to Aliceville Friday night.
South Lamar 35, Holy Spirit 17: At Tuscaloosa, Ala., the Stallions moved to 3-0 in AHSAA Class 1A, Region 5 play with a road win.
South Lamar (4-1, 3-0) scored the game’s first two touchdowns but would later trail 17-14 at halftime.
For South Lamar, Buster Griffin ran for 230 yards, with scoring runs of 1, 4, 7 and 96 yards. Chris Parker also had a 1-yard touchdown run.
Herachio Washington also topped 100 yards for the Stallions with 14 rushes for 117 yards.
South Lamar plays at Curry in a non-region matchup Friday night.
Pickens Academy 42, Coosa Valley 6: At Carrollton, Ala., the Pirates moved to 3-2 with a non-region win in Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) play.
For the Pirates, Riley Harcrow scored on runs of 8 and 82 yards. Seth Peeks scored on runs of 29 and 22 yards. Lee Acker had a 17-yard interception return and Dylan Fondren caught a 60-yard touchdown pass from Hamner Allen.
Harcrow and Grady McGlawn each caught 2-point conversions from Allen, while Allen also rushed for one.
Peeks ran 18 times for 180 yards, while Harcrow ran 10 times for 158 yards.
Pickens Academy will play host to Newton County Academy in a non-region matchup Friday night.
