When the calendar hits December, it usually means the East Mississippi Community College football team is ready to play for a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national championship.
No. 1 EMCC (10-1) will face No 2 Arizona Western College (9-0) at 2 p.m. Sunday in Perkinston in the Mississippi Bowl. This season’s bowl game will also serve as the national championship game.
“After close to a month of preparations, it is time to play,” EMCC coach Buddy Stephens said. “It’s different when you have this extra practice time. It just leads to more anticipation for the big game.”
The teans are set to arrive today on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College campus. A dinner will be held tonight. Saturday, both teams will do community serivce. Arizona Western will visit the Armed Forces Retirement Center, while EMCC will visit The Dream Program.
EMCC plays for its fourth-ever national championship, last winning in 2014.
