LOUISVILLE -- Blayze Berry had three hits and an RBI, and Seth Harris pitched 5 1/3 strong innings Thursday night to lead the Heritage Academy baseball team to a 9-6 victory against Winston Academy in a Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) Class AAA, District 2 game.
The victory helped Heritage Academy (20-6 overall, 10-2 district) close the district on a 10-game winning streak to clinch the district title.
Reid Huskison added two hits for Heritage Academy. Harris struck out eight.
Heritage Academy will open the playoffs May 1.
n Starkville Academy baseball beats Canton Academy: At Canton, the Starkville Academy wrapped up second place in MAIS Class AAA, District 2 standings with a 13-3, five-inning win at Canton Academy.
For Starkville Academy (20-6, 9-3), Kyle Faver had three hits, including a home run, with five RBIs. Garrett Lewis added three hits and three RBIs. Taylor Arnold and Ben Owens had two hits apiece. Arnold had two RBIs.
Cameron McKee and Nason Heflin combined on a three-hitter with nine strikeouts for the Volunteers.
Starkville Academy will play host to Oak Hill Academy at 6 tonight. Senior Night festivities are set to begin at 5:45 p.m.
Starkville Academy will open the playoffs May 1.
n Oak Hill Academy baseball falls to East Webster: At West Point, Oak Hill Academy dropped an 19-8 decision to East Webster Thursday night at home.
Collins Brown and Dylan Scott homered for the Raiders.
Oak Hill Academy will play at 6 tonight at Starkville Academy before starting the MAIS Class AA playoffs next week.
n West Lowndes baseball eliminated: At Sebastopol, West Lowndes saw its season end with a pair of losses in the opening round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A playoffs.
Sebastopol beat West Lowndes, 12-1 and 10-0.
n Season ends for New Hope tennis: New Hope dropped a 4-3 decision to Amory in an opening-round match of the MHSAA Class 4A state tournament Thursday at Lake Lowndes State Park.
