Wade Tackett is in line to be the next football coach at New Hope High School.
Hollandale School District Superintendent Mario Willis confirmed to The Dispatch on Thursday that Tackett, the head football coach for 2017 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A State champion Hollandale Simmons, will leave the school to replace Kris Pickle as the new football coach at New Hope High.
Willis said Tackett, who led Simmons to a 15-0 record and its third-straight state title this past season, informed him of his decision Wednesday.
Tackett’s hiring is expected to be placed on the agenda for the next Lowndes County School District meeting, which is scheduled for Friday, May. 11. If approved, Tackett, who also worked as an assistant football coach at Simmons and at Grenada, would replace Pickle, who announced last month he was stepping away from coaching.
A call to New Hope High Principal Matt Smith wasn’t immediately returned.
The Dispatch will update this story for its Friday print edition.
