The Mississippi High School Activities Association fast pitch softball tournaments get underway this weekend.
Starkville, No. 3 seed from Region 3, takes on Hernando in the 6A competition. Tupelo will await the winner in the 6A competition.
The Yellow Jackets are 7-7 and lost four of six to close the season, while Hernando is 18-11 and have won four of its past five games.
Caledonia is the No. 1 seed from Region 2 and will take on the winner of Clarksdale and Corinth.
The Confederates finished the year 11-8 and 9-1 in their district.
New Hope will join Caledonia in the 4A postseason as it takes on Ponotoc.
The Trojans are 10-9 and 6-2 in their district. They are the No. 2 seed in Region 2.
The winner between New Hope and Pontoc will play Tishomingo County Monday at 6 p.m.
Both first round series are slated to begin at 6 p.m. Friday.
