STARKVILLE — Seven Mississippi State track and field student-athletes earned All-America honors with their performances at the NCAA Outdoor Championships earlier this month.
NCAA Champion Anderson Peters, Curtis Thompson, Tyriq Horsford and Tiffany Flynn earned first-team honors while Dejon Devroe, Logan Boss and Sarah Blake were second-team selections.
Peters, who is a semifinalist for The Bowerman, won his second consecutive national title in the javelin while breaking his own NCAA Championships meet record. He led a trio of Bulldogs that swept the men’s javelin podium for just the second time in NCAA history. The MSU sophomore recorded six of the top-10 throws in collegiate history on his way to All-American honors for the second time.
Thompson placed second in the javelin to earn his fourth career first-team selection. The 2016 national champion never finished lower than seventh at the NCAA Championships and collected three top-three finishes in his career.
Horsford was right behind him in third, earning All-American recognition in his first season. The freshman from Trinidad and Tobago ranked second nationally in the event this season while picking up two SEC Freshman Field Athlete of the Week honors to go with an All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman selection.
Flynn collected her fifth All-American award and fourth first-team selection, all in the triple jump. She was the Bulldog women’s lone scorer at the Championships with an eighth-place finish. She closed her career with both the indoor and outdoor school records in the event.
In his two seasons competing at the Division I level, Devroe earned three All-American honors. The senior placed 10th in the 800m at the Championships this year to earn a second-team selection after finishing 14th a year ago. He was a first-team honoree indoors in 2018.
Another multiple school record holder, Boss earned her fourth All-American recognition. The 2018 SEC indoor high jump champion and NCAA indoor bronze medalist finished tied for 12th at this year’s outdoor championships. She holds the Bulldogs’ indoor, outdoor and freshman records in the high jump.
Blake made the most of her first year in Starkville, breaking the Bulldogs’ school record in the javelin and posting the best NCAA Championships finish of her career. She placed 11th in the javelin to earn All-American honors for the first time after two prior trips to the finals site.
Stephen Jones (3000m steeplechase), Rasheed Tatham (400m hurdles) and Alon Lewis (800m) all earned honorable mentions with their efforts at the national meet.
