STARKVILLE — Former Mississippi State guard Quinndary Weatherspoon has learned his post-graduation plans.
The San Antonio Spurs selected Weatherspoon with No. 49 overall pick in the second round of Thursday’s NBA Draft.
Weatherspoon is the first MSU player drafted since Arnett Moultrie went to the Miami Heat with the 27th overall pick in 2012.
One of three players in school history to total 2,000 points, the Canton native finished his four-year career at MSU with 2,012 points, 675 rebounds and 315 assists.
Weatherspoon also helped lead MSU to its first NCAA tournament appearance in a decade in 2018-19, while averaging 18.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.
As a high schooler, he helped lead Velma Jackson to three-straight Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A state titles between 2013 and 2015.
The Spurs finished the 2019 season 48-34 and seventh in the Western Conference. They were eliminated in seven games in the first round of the NBA playoffs by the Denver Nuggets.
