The East Mississippi Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams both beat East Central Community College on Thursday in Decatur, completing the Lions’ second sweep of the Warriors this season.
The EMCC women’s team (7-2) trailed by 12 points early in the second quarter and by three at halftime, but they tightened up on defense to blow past East Central. The Lions allowed just 14 points in the second half and notched a 67-43 win.
Topazia Hawkins scored 15 points, Taylor Lattimore and Aamiya Rush each scored 12, and Ja’Mia Hollings recorded her fourth double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Tye Metcalf scored 10 points as well.
In the men’s game, Donte Powers led the Lions (7-3) with 20 points in a 90-77 EMCC victory. Jakorie Smith scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double, Arecko Gipson Jr. had 16 points and grabbed six rebounds, and Danny Washington had 15 points and recorded four steals.
EMCC will play a doubleheader at Mississippi Delta Community College on Monday. The women’s game starts at 6 p.m., and the men’s game starts at 8 p.m.
