MACON -- Desire, discipline, and dedication. Those are the things Noxubee County High School football coach Tyrone Shorter is looking for from his players as the program enters the second part of its 2012 season. So far, the Tigers have put those three things to use.
Gary Harris wasn't sure how his players were going to respond. Following a loss to Washington School in its opening game of the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AAA North State tournament, the Heritage Academy fast-pitch softball coach challenged his players by telling them they were so close to getting to the overall state tournament. All Heritage Academy needed to do was find a way to regroup and defeat Jackson Academy and win one more game.

Sometimes in a tight ballgame a coach will dig deep into the playbook and pull out some trick plays. That's what Saltillo High School football coach Pat Byrd did Friday night against New Hope. With the game tied at the start of the fourth quarter, the Tigers converted a pair of trick plays for touchdowns to turn a close game into a 42-22 victory.
