DISPATCH STAFF REPORT
Organizers of the 17th annual Howlin’ Wolf Memorial Blues Festival set for Aug. 31 in West Point have a few months to go, but several acts are already confirmed.
After an acclaimed debut at the festival last year, Missouri native and Living Blues award winner Marquise Knox will return, by popular demand.
Also on the roster are Lightnin’ Malcolm with Cameron Kimbrough, along with Nick Moss and the Flip Tops. More acts are to be announced.
The festival, long held at The Civic in West Point, will be staged this year on the Mary Holmes College campus. As in the past, the concert will be the Friday night before the Prairie Arts Festival, which takes place in downtown West Point Saturday, Sept. 1.
The festival is presented by the Howlin’ Wolf Blues Society of West Point, a nonprofit organization established in 1995. The group’s objectives are to promote blues education in North Mississippi and perpetuate the musical achievements of Chester Arthur Burnett — Howlin’ Wolf — a native son of Clay County, and to honor other bluesmen from the region.
