The Columbus-Lowndes Public Library is currently hosting the exhibit “Picturing America” through Aug. 23.
“Picturing America” tells the story of America through its art. It brings patrons face to face with the people, places and events that have shaped our country and provides an innovative way to experience America’s history through our nation’s art.
The exhibit was developed by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) in partnership with the American Library Association and distributed to schools and libraries nationwide.
In addition, the library is showcasing a supplemental exhibit titled “Reflecting Mississippi.” This exhibit provides companion images for some of the NEH reproductions. These pictures were selected to bring themes and imagery of the “Picturing America” initiative home to Mississippi audiences. All of the images in the “Reflecting Mississippi” exhibit are from collections housed at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.
Both exhibits are free and open to the public.
