The Tabernacle Camp Meeting marks its 186th anniversary July 26 through Aug. 3 with a week of worship, fellowship and play just east of Columbus. The public is invited to take part in this storied tradition held at Tabernacle Campground, located behind Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Ethelsville, Alabama.
A kick-off dinner is set for Saturday, July 26 at 6 p.m. A community-wide potluck lunch begins at noon Thursday, July 31. A homemade ice cream social begins that evening immediately following the 7:30 p.m. service.
All denominations are welcome to services held three times daily in the open-air Brush Arbor, at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. There will be only one service on Saturday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m.
Steve Casteel and Prentiss “Bud” Gordon will lead services, with Steve and Becky Carver leading the music.
Some attending the camp meeting stay in rustic family cabins, called “tents,” located on the grounds. Generations of children have grown up going to the camp meeting.
Tabernacle Campground is located at 6015 Tabernacle Road, Ethelsville, Alabama — off Highway 50 East out of Columbus. For more information, contact Tabernacle Church, 205-681-2812.
