Baritone Matthew Hoch will conduct a masterclass and perform on the campus of Mississippi University for Women Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 21-22.
The masterclass will take place Monday, Sept. 21 at 3 p.m. in Poindexter Hall, Connie Sills Kossen Auditorium. In addition, Hoch will showcase his talent at a recital Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Kossen Auditorium.
Dr. Hoch is associate professor of voice at Auburn University where he teaches applied voice, diction and vocal literature courses. He also serves as coordinator of the voice area. Under his direction, students have gone on to successful careers in both classical and musical theatre genres.
In addition to his countless musical and educational achievements, Hoch has authored two books. The first is titled “A Dictionary for the Modern Singer,” which was released in 2014 by Rowman & Littlefield. His second book, “Welcome to Church Music and the Hymnal 1982,” was published by Morehouse in 2015.
Dr. Hoch earned his bachelor of music degree from Ithaca College with a triple major in vocal performance, music education and music theory a master of music degree from The Hartt School with a double major in vocal performance and music history. He earned his doctor of musical arts degree in vocal performance from the New England Conservatory.
Hoch currently lives in Auburn, Alabama, with his wife and three children. He also serves as choirmaster and minister of music at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Auburn.
