STARKVILLE — Featuring some of Russia”s finest young string players, Chamber Orchestra Kremlin performs Monday, Feb. 15, at Mississippi State University
The 7:30 p.m. performance in Bettersworth Auditorium of Lee Hall is the third in the 2009-10 Lyceum Series season.
“Chamber Orchestra Kremlin has drawn international praise everywhere from Glasgow to Tokyo, both for their concerts and for numerous recordings on the spiffy Swiss label, Claves,” wrote the San Francisco Classical Voice. It added: “Still, hearing live is believing. Clearly, this is one of the super ensembles on the current international scene.”
Founded in 1991 and led continuously by Misha Rachlevsk, Chamber Orchestra Kremlin features 16 young performers recognized for high energy and mesmerizing performances.
They have earned a devoted following in their home base, Moscow, and well as an increasing demand for international performances in North and South America, Europe, and the Far East.
The group has produced an award-winning catalog of more than 30 compact discs, including the 2006 recording “A Road Less Traveled,” featuring works of Joseph Haydn.
Their MSU program will include pieces from the works of Elgar, Shostakovich, Bach and Dvorak. The emotional high point of this program falls on the Shostakovich masterpiece. Dark, tragic, it never fails to reach every listener in the hall. Bach immediately follows to help both performers and listeners make the transition to the sunny, carefree sounds of Dvorak.
