The Local History Department (LHD) at the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library at 314 Seventh St. N. now has eight new laptops for use by patrons, volunteers, interns and staff.
Previously, the LHD only had one public access desktop computer to meet the needs of over 1,200 in-person visitors per year conducting historical and genealogical research. The eight new laptops allow for greater access as well as mobility and productivity.
Patrons will also have free access to ancestry.com and Wi-Fi on each of the laptops. Use of the computers will be restricted to within the LHD.
Funds for the laptops were made possible through a Library Services and Technology Act grant.
