Dr. Phillip Stockton, assistant professor of music education and choral director at Mississippi University for Women, will be the featured speaker at Town & Tower Club’s meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 6 at 11:30 a.m. in Pope Banquet Room.
Stockton coordinates the music education degree program and conducts the Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorale and Chamber Singers at The W. He also teaches conducting and music methods courses. This summer the MUW Chamber Singers are scheduled to tour Scotland. He will provide an overview of the choir program and samples of performances as part of his presentation to Town & Tower.
Before coming to The W, Stockton was director of choral activities at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Florida, where his choirs consistently received superior ratings at performance assessment.
Some of his past engagements have included assistant conductor for the Auburn University Women’s Chorus, student conductor of the Florida State Summer Chorale, past conductor of the Ole Miss Women’s Ensemble, assistant conductor to the Ole Miss Women’s Glee and interim director of the Oxford Civic Chorus.
Stockton received his bachelor of music education from Auburn University, master of music education from Florida State University and doctorate in music education from the University of Mississippi.
