Make-A-Wish® Mississippi’s annual Starkville Wine & Wishes will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 9 at Hewlett Stables. The cocktail event will feature a silent auction, Mississippi State athletics flair, music by Jeffrey Rupp and catering by Brian Michael’s Catering. Most important will be remarks from guest speaker Julie Sexton, a “wish mother” who will share the inspirational story of her daughter, Jolene.
Make-A-Wish Mississippi grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. According to a recent study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true has positive impacts on the health of children. Wish kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illness, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family. Along with support from donors and volunteers, Mississippi’s chapter, based in Ridgeland and Gulfport, grants at least 100 wishes a year.
Make-A-Wish Mississippi currently has 18 children from Oktibbeha and surrounding counties living with life-threatening medical conditions. These children are all awaiting their wishes. The average cost of a child’s most heartfelt wish is $6,500. Organizers ask the public to join Make-A-Wish Mississippi in celebrating these children and striving to make their wishes come true.
