Independence Day Celebration -- Starkville Parks & Recreation hosts a Fourth of July event with inflatables and vendors opening at 5 p.m., entertainment from 5-9 p.m. and a fireworks show at 9 p.m. at Starkville Sportsplex, 405 Lynn Lane. Thursday through Saturday, July 5-7 


Crawford Cotton Boll Festival -- Held in downtown Crawford, this festival celebrates those who helped make cotton a leading industry in the South. It features live entertainment, speakers, a step show, food and more. For information, call 662-272-5164.

Sounds of Summer -- Stormy Monday entertains from 7-9 p.m. at the Columbus Riverwalk in downtown Columbus. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. No coolers or pets. Concessions available for purchase. Friday, July 13 


Friday Night Jams -- The West Point/Clay County Arts Council hosts live music with Friday Night Jams at 7 p.m. at the Louise Campbell Center for the Arts, 235 Commerce St., West Point. Free to the public. 




Saturday, July 14 


Sizzling Second Saturday -- Special activities at Columbus' Hitching Lot Farmers Market between 7-10 a.m. include a visit from The W's Project CHEW food truck with healthy snacks for kids, water safety advice from the Army Corps of Engineers plus face painting. Kids get to paint a ceramic piggy bank to keep. Saum Chiropractic will offer stress screenings for adults. Second Avenue and Second Street North. 




Tuesday, July 19 


Downtown at Sundown -- Starkville's free summer concert series continues from 7-9 p.m. at Fire Station Park. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. No coolers. Food and drink vendors on site. For information, visit or call The Partnership, 662-323-3322. 




Friday and Saturday, July 20-21 


"Wizard of Oz" -- West Point/Clay County Arts Council presents this play at 7 p.m. at Center Stage Auditorium (Central School), West Point. Tickets $15; $10 children 3-17 and seniors at Petal Pushers, Growth Alliance and First United Methodist Church in West Point. Visit
