Aidan Dunkelberg in concert -- Aidan Dunkelberg presents a fiddle concert at 3 p.m. at the Columbus Arts Council's Rosenzweig Arts Center, 501 Main St. Get advance tickets ($15 CAC members/$17 nonmembers) at or call 662-328-2787. Tickets at the door are $20 members/$22 nonmembers.  


Because Hayden II -- This fundraiser in memory of the late Hayden Allen benefits the Hayden Allen Kids' Education Fund and a medical fund for Hannah Hitchcock. Live music and food at Zachary's in downtown Columbus from 1-7 p.m.

Artesia Days -- This summer festival includes an Aug. 3 block party with entertainment, motivational speakers, dance teams and more from 6 p.m.-midnight. On Aug. 4, opening ceremony is 2 p.m., followed by a cake walk, face painting, cartoon characters, gospel music and blues that evening. Saturday, Aug. 11  


Sizzling Second Saturday -- The Hitching Lot Farmers Market celebrates a Back to School Bash from 7-10 a.m., with music by Melvin Mordecai, Mother Goose and a visit from The W's Project CHEW food truck, plus fresh produce, baked goods and crafts at Second Avenue and Second Street North. Art for EB -- The third annual Art for EB from 4-7 p.m. at the Ole Homestead, the home of Rufus and Karen Ward, at 302 College St., Columbus, honors the late Gabe Valentine of Starkville and features the art of his grandparent, Lee Gibson. Downtown at Sundown finale -- Bring lawn chairs or blankets to Starkville's Fire Station Park for the final free concert of the summer series from 7-9 p.m. (No coolers.) Food vendors will be on site. For more information, visit 




Saturday, Aug. 18 


Possum Town Triathlon -- Swim 600 yards, bike 17 miles and run 3.3 miles in the Possum Town Triathlon at Columbus Lake on Wilkins-Wise Road. The event begins at 7 a.m. Learn more and register at  


Golden Triangle Comic Con -- This celebration of comic, geek and pop culture begins at 10 a.m. at Trotter Convention Center in downtown Columbus with special guests, gaming, tournaments and cosplay. Get information and tickets at Tickets at the door will be $20 for adults ($15 for military, first responders), $10 teens, $5 children (kids 6 and under get in free). 




Saturday, Aug. 25  


Forks & Corks -- This Starkville Area Arts Council fundraiser is 6:30-10 p.m. at The Mill Conference Center in Starkville. Local chefs prepare specialties for tasting. Vote for your favorite. Tickets are $75 at, or call 662-324-3080. 




Farmers Markets -- Columbus Hitching Lot Farmers Market: Mondays 4-6 p.m.; Thursdays/Saturdays 7-10 a.m. Second Street and Second Avenue North. 


Starkville Community Market: Tuesdays 4-6 p.m.; Saturdays 7:30-10:30 a.m. Fire Station Park, Russell and Lampkin Streets.
