A film festival scheduled this weekend to honor a former Mississippi State University student has been relocated due to threats of inclement weather.
The Adam Kazery Short Film Benefit, originally scheduled to take place Friday night at Grumpy”s, now will be held at Old Venice Pizza Co. in downtown Starkville. The event at Grumpy”s would have been outdoors, with movies shown on the Grumpytron. All events at Old Venice will be indoors.
Event coordinator Stephen Ward has seen several musical performances canceled at Grumpy”s this summer due to rain and lightning and didn”t want his festival to suffer the same fate.
“This festival is just way too important for me to leave it up to the weather,” Ward said.
The event will begin at Old Venice Friday around 9:30 or 10 p.m., Ward said. About a dozen short films will be screened, with each lasting less than 10 minutes. Live music also will be performed between films.
Judges will be provided by the Magnolia Film Festival. The winning film earns a spot in the Magnolia Film Festival.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans; Kazery received treatment for Crohn”s disease at Ochsner from 1998 until he died of complications from the disease in February.
Old Venice is located at 110 E. Main St., Starkville. For more information on the Adam Kazery Short Film Benefit, visit the event”s Facebook page.
