Ready or not, downtown Columbus is getting into the holiday spirit. The Downtown Christmas Open House takes place Friday through Sunday, Nov. 1-3. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, 11 downtown stores will be open from 1-5 p.m.
Downtown merchants have donated gift certificates totaling about $650 that will go to one lucky shopper in a grand prize drawing. The winner will be announced Wednesday, Nov. 6.
“The annual Christmas Open House is an exciting and unique opportunity for the many downtown merchants to showcase their products, including great food, clothing, gifts, jewelry, art and more,” said Main Street Columbus Executive Director Barbara Bigelow. “You’ll find yourself in the holiday spirit as you walk through historic downtown to begin your holiday gift-buying.”
Open House is also a time when the community can show its support for small, local businesses. That, in turn, helps boost the city’s economy, Bigelow noted.
“The holidays bring a special magic to the air and the Christmas Open House is the first sign that the season has begun,” she said. “Downtown shops will be festively decorated and you’ll find those special, one-of-a-kind gifts for everyone on your list. And be sure to check out our downtown restaurants for lunch or dinner.”
The Downtown Open House is sponsored by the City of Columbus and Prestige Event Rentals.
Other upcoming seasonal events in downtown Columbus include the Holiday Farmers Market Nov. 23, Small Business Saturday Nov. 30, the Columbus Christmas Parade Dec. 2, the official lighting of the Christmas Tree Dec. 5 and Wassail Fest Dec. 6.
