The Christmas Parade for the City of Columbus is being planned by numerous volunteers, participants and Main Street Columbus. This year”s parade will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, and will follow a set route throughout downtown.
“The family of Happy Irby and board members of the Happy Christmas Fund have been chosen as this year”s grand marshals by the Christmas Parade committee to represent the vast contributions to our community made by the late Irby and the Happy Christmas Fund that still continues to benefit hundreds each year,” stated Amber Murphree Brislin, Main Street Columbus director. Members of the Irby family and board members of the Happy Christmas Fund will lead the parade in a horse-drawn carriage.
Cash prizes will be awarded to parade entries in the following categories: $75 awarded for first place, $50 for second and $25 for third place in the Best Business Entry and Best Group/Organization Entry categories, and $50 will be awarded for Best Overall Band. Winners will be announced through local media following the parade.
“Several bands, floats, Santa Claus, Miz Claus and special characters have already signed up for the parade, so this year promises to just as entertaining and successful as last year”s Christmas Parade,” said Brislin. The theme of the 2010 parade is “A Christmas Story.” All participants are asked to follow the theme when decorating their floats and cars.
A detailed parade route map and applications can be obtained at the Main Street Columbus office, 107 Fifth St. N., at www.columbusmainstreet.com, or by calling 662-328-6305.
