Kara Celeste Short and Charles Evan Johnson of Birmingham, Alabama, exchanged vows Sept. 16, 2017, at 6 p.m. at Amelia Plantation Chapel on Amelia Island, Florida, with the Rev. Charles Edwin Bennett officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Lafayette Short of Thomaston, Georgia. She is the granddaughter Mrs. Kathleen Grantham Short of Thomaston, and the late Mr. Charles Lafayette Short, and Mrs. Evelyn Stigler Harney of Athens, Georgia, and the late Rev. Joe Frank Harney Sr. She was given in marriage by her father. The bride wore a flowing white crochet lace gown with tan underlay, and a cathedral-length veil. She carried a bouquet of white roses and greenery. Caitlin McNabb Haygood of Atlanta, Georgia, cousin of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Anna Evan Jagor of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, sister-in-law of the bride; Abbey Johnson Dichiara of West Point, sister of the groom; and Allison Johnson Brister of West Point, sister of the groom. Bridal attendants wore navy silk chiffon dresses in the style of their choice and carried bouquets of white roses and greenery. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albin Evan Johnson III of Columbus. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dudley Newell of Columbus, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Albin Evan Johnson Jr. of Columbus. The groom’s father served as best man. Groomsmen were Kyle Harney Short of Jackson Hole, brother of the bride; Colby Lloyd Brister of West Point, brother-in-law of the groom; and Andrew Paul Dichiara of West Point, brother-in-law of the groom. Following a wedding trip to Guacilito, Nicaragua, the couple resides in Birmingham, where the groom is a credit analyst with ServisFirst Bank. The bride is a pediatric nurse practitioner with the UAB Department of Pediatric Nephrology at Children’s of Alabama.
